What is the flu? Influenza (the Flu) is a respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses A or B and spread by respiratory secretions of infected individuals. Symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, headaches, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults). The flu can range from a mild to severe illness, leading to hospitalization and even death.
