Harold D. Brandt, MD, FACP
Three decades in the medical field lets a doctor touch many lives. Such is the story of Dr. Harold D. Brandt, Internal Medicine physician. From his roots in Shreveport, his is a lifelong story of family, service, and helping others. Dr. Brandt graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge in 1976 and earned his M.D. from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1980. He followed with his residency in Internal Medicine at the LSU School of Medicine at Earl K. Long Hospital, completing his program in 1983. He became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1988.
In caring for patients, Dr. Harold D. Brandt ascribes to a philosophy of wellness, which embraces both the physiological and emotional components of a person’s health. With a focus on these two core elements and by adhering to a best practices approach in managing acute and chronic disease states, Dr. Brandt has helped many individuals achieve and maintain their health throughout his career. In March 2012, Hillary Ryland, a certified Family Nurse Practitioner, joined Dr. Brandt’s healthcare team at the Baton Rouge Clinic along with his two nationally certified medical assistants, Traci and Danita.
Within the field of Medicine, Dr. Brandt is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, holds a medical license in the state of Louisiana, and is a member of numerous professional bodies including the Louisiana State Medical Society, the East Baton Rouge Medical Society, the American Medical Group Association, the Health Care Compliance Association and the American Academy of Physician Executives. He has also served as the Medical Director and Chief Compliance Officer of the Baton Rouge Clinic since 2004.
Active civically, Dr. Brandt is President of the Beaumont Lane Homeowners Association and the former Chairman of the Board of the National Board of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and is a former Board member of Accion Texas, a Micro-loan organization dedicated to helping others build their own businesses. Dr. Brandt is the former Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 5 in Baton Rouge. He is a former president and current member of the Board of Trustees of the Congregation B’nai Israel of Baton Rouge.
Family is of paramount importance to Dr. Brandt. He and his wife and two children have made Baton Rouge their home along with his “third” child, their pet dog, Sammy. Dr. Harold D. Brandt’s wife Laurie and Sammy are a nationally certified pet therapy team, and together they are often seen at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital visiting children on both the Pediatric Oncology and the General Pediatrics floors. Dr. Harold D. Brandt, when away from his office, enjoys wood-working, cycling and, to use his own words, being a professional “Beach Bum.”
