Jamar A. Melton, MD, FAAP


With a decade and a half in the practice of Pediatric Medicine, Dr. Jamar A. Melton has helped many young people lead healthier and fuller lives. A native of Baton Rouge, Dr. Melton graduated for the University of Virginia in 1992 and returned to Louisiana to earn his M.D. from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1996. Dr. Melton performed his internship and medical residency in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He additionally served as Chief Resident of Pediatrics prior to completing his program in 2000.

Dr. Melton practiced Pediatric Medicine locally for several years before joining The Baton Rouge Clinic in 2011. He is a board certified Pediatrician, a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Louisiana. He served as Chairman of the Board of Woman’s Hospital in 2012, along with past service on the board of The Baton Rouge Clinic and on the Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Executive Committee. He also serves as Clinical Instructor with Our Lady of the Lake’s Pediatric Residency Program. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Louisiana State Medical Society.

Dr. Melton is a member of First United Methodist Church, and he and his wife reside in Baton Rouge with their three children. His many hobbies include youth sports, fishing, and duck hunting.
