BATON ROUGE, LA (WGMB) – “We commonly use lasers in dermatology to treat a variety of skin conditions, like rosacea .We also use it for wrinkling and anti-aging, treating brown spots, red spots, all those sorts of things,” said Dr. Courtney Murphy, a dermatologist at the Baton Rouge Clinic.
In this week’s Women’s Wellness, we are talking about laser therapy.
“It comes in like a machine with a laser head that uses targeted wavelengths to affect different areas and different things on your skin. Lasers are great for men and women. So, sometimes people will ask who gets lasers. Men get lasers. Women get lasers. You can do them for all sorts of things,” explained Dr. Murphy.
The one we are going to take a look at is called Forever Young BBL.
“This laser can do all sorts of things for you. People will come in with brown spots or little red broken blood vessels that they want treated, and this laser can actually target those areas, and can truly get rid of them,” explained Dr. Murphy. “It also helps promote collagen formation, which helps you have a more youthful appearance and kind of reverse some of the signs of aging.”
What are the risks?
“Laser is very safe if used correctly. So the risk would be if you have someone who doesn’t know exactly what they are doing with the laser, you can actually burn someone if you do it incorrectly or if you use it on tan skin, there are complications that can occur, but if used correctly, lasers are very safe,” explained Dr. Murphy.
Are there any misconceptions?
“That lasers have to have a huge amount of down time. So, when people hear the word laser, a lot of times they think their face is going to be peeled off. Well, there’s all sorts of different lasers. You can do lasers where you truly come in, have the laser done, put makeup on after, and go to work the next day and still get benefits from it,” concluded Dr. Murphy.
